ACH Notice of Change (NOC)
An ACH Notification of Change is an electronic message sent by a receiving bank (the merchant's customer's bank) to indicate that the ACH transaction was processed, but contained incorrect or outdated information.
If we receive an ACH NOC relating to a Stax Connect merchant, Stax will inform them directly by sending a notification to the primary email address on file for the account. The Stax Connect partner will also receive an awareness email with details of the NOC. Notifications are sent out once a day.
The following details will be included with the NOC notification:
- Customer name
- Transaction ID
- Transaction date
- NOC info code
- Description
If a NOC is received for one of your merchants, the merchant must update the payment information before the transaction originates again. NACHA rules require that merchants make changes or corrections within six (6) banking days of receiving the notification of change or before sending another entry - whichever comes first. Please note that this information should be updated within 6 banking days to help merchants avoid delays, failures, or returns in future transactions.
Common reasons for initiating NOCs
- The information in an ACH entry (Direct Deposit/Direct Payment) is outdated and needs to be changed.
- Information contained in an ACH entry (Direct Deposit/Direct Payment) is incorrect and needs to be corrected.
- Banks have elected to consolidate routing numbers and want the merchant to use a different one than the one provided with the payment.
Note: A bank routing number is a 9-digit code used to identify the customer's financial institution. The routing number can often be found in the bottom-left corner of a check.
