Linked or Chained Merchants

Merchant IDs can be chained for a location or profit center of a merchant business to the master
merchant account if they process credit cards using the same payment methods, processing procedures,
and security policy. This enables the master merchant to attest to compliance for all the chained
merchant IDs at one time.

Merchant IDs may be chained by MRI or by tax ID, depending on your application configuration.

Stax will automatically chain trust and operating accounts, and honour any existing chaining configurations.

Break a Merchant Chain

There are times when you will need to update the MRI, tax ID, or chain number of a chained
merchant because the chain integrity has been compromised by one of the following actions.

  • The master MID was made inactive.
  • An associated MID was made inactive.
  • A MID was removed from the chain using the chaining functionality.

Please reach out to Aperia or Stax Support if changes are required.

Change the Master Merchant

When the master merchant is changed, the application sends emails to both the current and pending master merchants. (If the current master merchant account is inactive, the merchant will not receive this email.) After receiving the email, the pending master merchant must log in to the application to accept the role. The SAQ and ASV status and documents are then transferred to the new master merchant.

On the Chain page, the pending master merchant is designated pending, and the original master merchant remains the master until the pending master merchant accepts the change. All compliance statuses remain unchanged.
